School of Technology, BIM & Digital Twins

The school leading the digital transformation of the AEC sector globally

Technology

The School of Technology, BIM & Digital Twins at GUTEC University is the technological core of the institution and one of the most advanced academic pillars in the digitization of the AEC (Architecture, Engineering & Construction) sector on an international scale. From our global and multidisciplinary approach, we train professionals capable of planning, designing, executing, managing, and operating infrastructure and buildings through data, integrated models, intelligent processes, and digital platforms.

This school was created with a clear mission: to raise the standards of quality, productivity, interoperability, and sustainability in the construction and operation of assets, focusing all learning on BIM methodology, digital twins, IoT/OT sensors, reality capture, artificial intelligence, and applied data science.

In a historically fragmented sector, our commitment is to build a training program of excellence that connects engineering, technology, and management, positioning GUTEC as one of the most comprehensive private technological universities in the world.

A school built for the future of the AEC sector.

This school is designed for those who want to lead the digital transformation of the sector: modelers, BIM coordinators, digital managers, GIS specialists, civil engineers, surveyors, MEP experts, maintenance professionals, consultants, architects, or tech professionals who want to enter the industry.

Students work on projects based on real buildings, linear infrastructure, industrial facilities, university campuses, data centers, bridges, and tunnels. Each program incorporates practical activities that allow students to develop skills in simulation environments and collaborative projects. The end result is a comprehensive, verifiable professional portfolio that is aligned with international standards.

The entire school integrates the use of professional software and platforms widely used in the sector:
Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks, InfraWorks, Tekla, QGIS/ArcGIS, Pix4D, Metashape, Dynamo, Grasshopper, Power BI, data engines, IoT systems, digital twin platforms, and interoperable CDEs.
Where possible, students have access to educational licenses or free alternatives with equivalent functionality.

The school collaborates with engineering companies, construction companies, infrastructure operators, public bodies, architecture firms, technology companies, and utilities. Thanks to this international network, students have access to real projects, internships, industrial challenges, mentoring, and job opportunities through our GUTEC.xión global talent program with industry.

Areas of specialization at the School.

The School of Technology, BIM & Digital Twins is organized into seven complementary areas, providing a comprehensive and in-depth overview of the digitization of built assets:

This is where the foundations of collaborative work and parametric design are laid. Students learn to develop BIM models from scratch for architecture, structures, MEP, infrastructure, and civil engineering. They understand BEP requirements, drawing production, clash detection, 4D planning, 5D measurements, and the preparation of IFC deliverables under international standards.

In addition, they work on the transition from design BIM to operational BIM, understanding how information is structured in a model to facilitate maintenance, operation, and management of the entire asset lifecycle.

Digital twins are one of the pillars of the school. Students learn to connect BIM models with IoT/OT platforms, sensors, BMS, CMMS, and data-driven maintenance systems.
The goal is to develop models that not only physically represent an asset, but also connect it to real-time data, enabling performance analysis, energy forecasting, alarms, building comfort and health indicators, and predictive maintenance strategies.

Projects include educational buildings, hospitals, road infrastructure, tunnels, industrial plants, and digital campuses.

The school provides comprehensive training in GIS, digital cartography, spatial analysis, and topographic models, which are fundamental to urban and infrastructure design.
Students learn to work with QGIS/ArcGIS, generate MDT/DEM, manage massive point clouds, integrate LiDAR data, perform mobility analysis, and publish interactive web maps connected to BIM models.

The program delves into GIS–BIM interoperability, precise geolocation, and publishing on open platforms for government agencies and consulting firms.

Students work with drones, cameras, mobile LiDAR and photogrammetry tools to generate orthomosaics, accurate 3D models, and inspections of facades, roofs and structural elements.

The curriculum covers flight protocols, regulations, planning, point cloud processing, BIM integration and the generation of technical documentation for reports, licences and site audits. This field is essential for renovation projects, civil engineering, asset management and construction monitoring.

The school incorporates training in data science applied to energy, maintenance, SHM, air conditioning, facility operation, construction trajectory analysis, and computer vision for quality control.
Students learn to work with real datasets, perform ETL/ELT, build dashboards, detect anomalies, predict consumption, and apply artificial intelligence to inspections.

They work with Python, Power BI, IoT platforms, analysis libraries, and time series models.

OT/SCADA Cybersecurity and Critical Digital Infrastructure

An essential part of digitisation consists of automating processes. Students learn to develop scripts in Dynamo and Grasshopper, work with APIs, generate quality control routines, automate documentation and optimise models.

This field allows for reduced production times, minimised errors, improved design iterations and the scaling of processes within companies.

School programs and degrees.

The school offers a balanced structure between master’s degrees, diplomas, and professional certificates, allowing each student to specialize according to their goals.

Los másteres profundizan en metodologías y proyectos largos; los diplomados son altamente prácticos y aplicados; y los certificados permiten dominar habilidades específicas en pocas semanas.

All of these programs are designed to be compatible with work and are taught live online with access to a 24/7 resource platform.

GUTEC learning methodology.

The experience at this school is intensive, practical, and completely results-oriented.
Each program combines:

Students progress from conceptual understanding to technical execution, culminating in an integrative project that demonstrates their professional capabilities to companies in the sector.
