Validations and recognition of prior learning (RPL)
At GUTEC University, you can have your prior learning—academic, professional, and non-formal—recognized to fulfill course requirements in your program. The goal is to avoid duplication, optimize your investment, and accelerate your academic progress, while always ensuring that the degree’s learning outcomes are met.
What RPL is and what it isn't.
RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is the process by which an academic committee assesses whether your prior education, professional experience, or certifications are equivalent to the learning outcomes of one or more modules in the program.
- Yes, you can: co-validate entire modules or parts of them (depending on the competency map).
- You cannot: validate the capstone project, required internships, or critical core modules as defined by the program.
- It is not the same as relying on seniority: it always requires verifiable evidence.
Scope and Limits of the RPL.
- Maximum percentage of credits/hours that can be transferred per program: up to 40%.
- Cannot be substituted: Final Project/Capstone, required internships (if any), and seminars for specific certification.
- Validity of qualifications: Evidence must be no more than 7 years old (as a general guideline). Older evidence requires additional proof or an update.
The exact limit and the “non-transferable” modules are listed in each program’s description.

- 2. Submit a formal application on the website (select the module(s) to be recognized).
- 3. Upload of supporting documents + Equivalency Chart (GUTEC template).
- 4. Technical review (first reader) and committee review (second reader + program director).
- 5. Interview or short test, if applicable (20–40 min / quiz or mini-case study).

- 7. Student's acceptance (digital signature).
Assessment criteria and rubric.
- Module competency coverage (knowledge, skills, tools) — 40%
- Evidence and verifiability (clear, traceable, up-to-date) — 25%
- Level of autonomy/impact (accountability, complexity, results) — 20%
- Currentness (≤7 years or proven update) — 10%
- Quality of the application (equivalency chart, clarity, organization) — 5%
Possible resolutions
- Passed (full or partial).
- Denied (with recommendations).
- Passed, subject to completion of a refresher micro-module/quiz.
Impact of RPL on duration, itinerary, and price.
- Duration: You can reduce your course load and move on to subsequent modules (depending on the schedule).
- Curriculum: The program has been restructured while retaining all prerequisites and the capstone project in its entirety.
- Price: The total cost decreases in proportion to the number of modules completed (after which scholarships/discounts are applied).
- Certification: The diploma reflects the entire program; RPL is not listed as a “mark” on the diploma, but it is included in your academic record.
Calculation order (summary):
Base price → (–) RPL → (=) new total → (–) Scholarship(s) (up to the maximum amount) → (–) Discounts → (+) Fees (if any).

- Final Project / Capstone: Not eligible for credit.

Examples of RPL by program family (for reference).

Numerical examples (price/time).
Case A — Technical Master’s Degree (€8,900; 300 hours)
- Approved RPL: 60 hours (20%) → new total: 8,900 × 0.80 = €7,120
- Approved RPL: 60 hours (20%) → new total: 8,900 × 0.80 = €7,120
- Deposit of €400 already paid → €6,008 to be financed (e.g., 6 × €1,001.33)
Program B — MBA (€12,900; 360 hours)
- RPL: 90 hours (25%) → €9,675
- 15% Company Grant: –€1,451.25 → €8,223.75
- Net amount –5%: €7,812.56
The hours and percentages are for illustrative purposes only. The exact adjustment is detailed in your RPL decision.
Application Quality: Quick Guide.
- Cover page with information, schedule, and target RPL module(s).
- Mapping Table (GUTEC template): learning outcome ↔ evidence ↔ page/link ↔ authorship/role ↔ date.
- Organized, anonymized evidence, including screenshots if the evidence consists of tools or software.
- Executive Summary (1 page): Rationale for the recognition.
- Statement of Truth and Authorship.
Integrity and auditing.
- Mandatory declaration of authorship.
- There may be a technical interview or a test to assess your proficiency.
- False statements or impersonation ⇒ denial of the request and possible exclusion from the process.
Appeals and retrials
- You can appeal a decision by submitting new evidence or clarifications within 7 days.
- If the appeal is denied, you may reapply for RPL after 6 months or once you have updated evidence.
Schedule and coordination with the registrar's office
- Recommendation: Apply for RPL 4–6 weeks before the start of the cohort.
- If your RPL arrives after you enroll, we will recalculate your balance and adjust future payments or issue a refund for the difference in accordance with our policy.
